COLOUR OF THE YEAR 2019 - INTRODUCING LIVING CORAL

Guest User

At the end of every year the design world holds its breath in anticipation, waiting to find out what is the colour of the year, as decreed by the world colour leaders, Pantone. Editors of glamour and decor magazines clamber to get a preview, but it’s a secret more closely guarded than the Da Vinci code. This year’s showstopper will have you glowing with pleasure - it’s called Living Coral and it’s a gorgeous hue of pink with orange undertones. It’s the colour of that final blush of sunset and the proud pink of coral under the sea.

SETTING THE TREND FOR FASHION AND HOMES

Pantone’s Colour of the Year usually dictates design the world over. Last year it was a wild purple, called Ultra Violet, which didn’t really resonate in Southern Africa. But this year’s choice is sure to be a hit, given our love of Rose Gold and the dusty pink called Rose Quartz that was Pantone’s 2016 choice. Living Coral has already made its way into stores such as Superbalist, Woolworths and Mr Price Home. Kitchen Aid has embraced the colour by launching a full range of beaters, blenders and other small appliances in coral, not yet available in South Africa, but sure to come.

A VERY VERSATILE COLOUR

Living Coral is a wonderful, versatile colour that you can go big and bold with — paint a whole room, if you like (the Plascon equivalent is Fuzzy Peach R7-A1-2). Or you can add life to almost any colour scheme with little pops of it. Here’s a look at some of the fabrics that embrace the trend.

EASY TO PAIR WITH OTHER VIBRANT COLOURS

Coral’s pink hue means that it will be complimentary to any colour that contains green — so you’ll get a pop with dark teal, duck egg and the fresh botannical greens shown in the story below.

PLAYFUL ENOUGH FOR KIDS

A quirky and energetic colour, coral finds its way into many youthful fabric designs. Our most popular collections, My World and Caboodle, have fresh, fun patterns that work well in a kid’s bedroom … or if you’re looking to add a little playfulness and originality to a decor scheme in other parts of the home.
