JOSEPH AVNON'S CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY-INSPIRED LIVING ROOM

MEET THE DESIGNER
Jonathan Avnon from Joburg based interior design company Joseph Avnon Interiors has shared with us this recently completed interior design project. His traditional design aesthetic with interjections of pattern, colour and texture is evident in this beautifully appointed Parkwood living room.
THE BRIEF
This project was recently completed for Johannesburg based client client, Laura from Parkwood. She wanted to redo the living room in her classic home to create a space that reminded her of her extensive travels through the English countryside. Her preferences included a colour palette centring around subtle duck egg shades and whimsical country patterns.
THE DESIGN INSPIRATION
After chatting with Laura and assessing her design needs, Jonathan knew he wanted to create a traditional space without making the decor scheme feel dated. After discovering the Country House collection from SG Fabrics, he found the perfect basis to a contemporary country theme. The collection included colourway "Dovedale" which featured a duck egg blue base and a beautiful bird pattern that both Laura and Jonathan immediately loved.

JONATHANS REDECORATING TIPS: PLAN BEFORE BUYING
"I think always have a clear idea of what you want to achieve in a space before you start purchasing items or decorating. In the case of this lounge, we started with the DoveDale fabric and built the room from there. This helps to ensure cohesion and makes the end result so much better. If necessary find a photo of a room style you loved in a magazine or on Pinterest and use that as your starting point, paying attention to what colours have been used and the ratio thereof to ensure the perfect balance of everything you put into the space."
