HOW TO STYLE A LEATHER COUCH

Lauren Graham

There's nothing quite like a big brown leather couch to bring comfort into your home.  Leather couches have been around for centuries and continue to stay in style. They wear well, are relatively easy to clean and they tend to get better with age. Whether you have just purchased a leather couch or have inherited an old faithful, you will also want to know how best to style it properly to avoid having your lounge look like a bachelor pad.

We took on the challenge to find the ideal way to style a leather couch to add warmth and texture, and these were the results:

1. START WITH COMPLIMENTARY KEYS PIECES

A leather couch has a tendency to dominate a space if it is not paired correctly with the right pieces to help give balance to a room. The furniture needs to compliment the leather, not draw more attention to it. Add one or two upholstered single arms chairs for a chic touch. Bringing in upholstered seating also provides a great opportunity to add texture and colour. A great sized coffee table in a natural wood will help bring the look together.

2. ADD A RUG FOR WARMTH

A plush rug is the perfect piece to not only tie all the other furniture together, but nothing brings more warmth to a room than this key piece. A rug has a wonderful way and making a space look cozy and inviting.

DECORATORS TIP: Ensure your rug is large enough to tie the room together. The bigger the better - ideally the rug should reach beneath all furniture pieces in your lounge setting.

3. MIX IT UP

Pillows, throws and runners have a fantastic way of giving a room great texture and personality. Don't be afraid to mix and match your prints and colours! Add a tall lamp or a smaller side table lamp to bring more light into the room.

4. THE FINAL TOUCH

Plants are an inexpensive way of livening up your space and keep your air fresh, so go green! The more greenery the better so don't be hesitant to bring in all types of plants, in all shapes and sizes. Add your favourite accessories like bowls, vases, trays or your favourite coffee table book selection, for the final touch to personalise your space.
