THE ONION LIFE HACK THAT WILL SAVE YOU TIME (AND THE TEARS!)
Lauren Graham
Ok, so if this isn't the coolest life hack you see all year, then we don't know what is! If your 2016 includes resolutions to eat healthier and cook more often, then listen up, this one is for you! Our #YearofTheHome series takes us to the kitchen this time round with the ultimate solution to a common ingredient, the onion.
Used as the base to almost all cooked dishes, most home kitchens will use onion on a daily basis. This quick trick, which solves so many little problems at once, requiring a little upfront prepping to reap the benefits of pre-prepared chopped onion for weeks. It saves time, it will save you from the inevitable onion tears and you'll have chef-style finely chopped onion, every time.
HERE'S WHAT TO DO
1. Peel large onions
2. Cut in half or quarters depending on the size of your blender
3. Throw into blender and pulse on high until onions are finely chopped.
4. Spoon into small freezer bags
5. Freeze & use. You can fry from frozen as and when you need.
TOP TIP: If you cook with a lot of garlic, add crushed garlic to some bags and mark with a permanent marker before freezing. You'll give your fresh garlic extra shelf life by making your own onion and garlic mix.
