UPGRADE YOUR GUEST BATHROOM IN 6 EASY STEPS!
Lauren Graham
A guest bathroom is one of those rooms you might be tempted to overlook as a functional utility, but since we're on a mission to make this our #YearOfTheHome, we're leaving no stone unturned. With a simple tray full of some staple goodies, you can give your guest bathroom (and your guests) the 5 star treatment. By adding functional items in pretty packaging and decorative storage, you can turn your humble guest loo into a hotel-quality powder room. Here's how:
1. SWITCH OUT A HANGING HAND TOWEL FOR SMALL INDIVIDUAL TOWELS
If you do only one thing to upgrade the guest loo, make it this one. Do away with a hanging hand towel and opt for single little hand towels rolled up and stored on a decorative tray or basket. It's more hygenic (let's be honest, we'd all prefer to know ours were the only grubby hands on the towel), and it adds a touch of instant luxury.
TOP TIP: Don't forget to provide a separate basket or bin on the floor for guests to throw these into so that they can be washed and re-used.
2. ADD A TRAY OF COSMETIC GOODIES
This really goes a long way in making your guests feel comfortable and they won't need to ask if they need to freshen themselves up. Stock up on some staples that your guests might need and lay them out on a tray. It can be things like his and hers fragrances or body spray, hand cream, dental floss and breath mints. Make sure you add a pretty box of facial tissues - the box is a nice decorative touch and tissues always come in handy.
TOP TIP: Were you gifted a fragrance that's collecting dust on your dressing table because it's not to your personal taste? Rather share it with guests in the bathroom than going out to spend money on buying new.
3. ADD SCENTED CANDLES OR A FRAGRANCE DIFFUSER
Scented candles add subtle fragrance to a room and will give the bathroom a spa-like feel. There are also so many beautifully packaged options these days they make for fabulous decor items. It's also a lovely touch to light them when doing some evening entertaining. If you really want maximum scent, adding a diffuser will work wonders in creating a fresh smell in your guest bathroom.
4. ADD A SMALL BUNCH OF FRESH FLOWERS
Unless you entertain very regularly you don't need to keep the bathroom flowers stocked at all times, but it does add a wonderful fresh pop of life to the bathroom. You don't need to go overboard either with dramatic bouquets, something small and simple will do the trick
TOP TIP: If you're hosting a dinner party and you've bought flowers for the table or around the house, grab a few stems from your bouquet, cut down to size and pop in a pretty little jug or vase in your bathroom.
5. SPLURGE ON SOME LUXE HAND SOAP OR A DECANTER
Go all out and treat guests to a luxury hand soap with a beautiful scent. Spending a little extra to get something in a beautiful glass bottle will really add an extra touch of elegance. You can also buy a pretty pump bottle and decant into that to avoid having ugly brand labels spoil your look.
6. STOCK UP ON THE TP
It might seem like a no-brainer, but you'd hate for guests to have to ask for toilet paper on their arrival. Stock a decent amount of toilet paper in your guest bathroom to make sure there's more than enough. Having a jumbo pack of toilet paper sitting in a room is probably not the most attractive, so store in a decorative basket for easy access.
And there you have it - a bathroom upgrade that won't break the bank, but will add oodles of hospitality to your next night in!
